All of our jewelry is made with nickel-free and cadmium-free 14k white gold, yellow gold, rose gold or black rhodium plating over 14k gold underneath.

We use vegan polishing compounds.

We are an Association of Professional Piercers (APP Phase 2 Verified) verified jewelry company. This means we have passed the tests and standards they set forth:

• Annual ASTM F2999 compliance test and annual ASTM F2923 compliance test (jewelry passed nickel and cadmium testing).
• In-house HD-XRF testing capabilities (ability to check the karat of the gold and percentage of metal alloy).
• Ethics agreement (sourced jewelry components from ethical suppliers, safe work conditions and fair wages).
• ISO 9001 compliance test, and more (globally recognized standards that ensure the organization consistently delivers products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements). 

In addition to the ISO9001 certification that APP verification requires, our facilities also hold these certifications:

• ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems)
• ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems)

These internationally recognized certifications are thorough and independently audited, requiring evidence of safe working conditions, fair treatment of employees, and environmentally conscious practices. While fair wages are not a standalone ISO standard, both ISO45001 and ISO14001 include labor welfare criteria—including fair compensation—as part of their review.

Our jewelry is biocompatible and tested for its purity, nickel and cadmium, and safe to be used in initial piercing and long term wear.

Each gemstone undergoes a rigorous and meticulous inspection conducted by our certified gemologists. This process ensures the natural origin and quality of every stone. Examinations meticulously assess characteristics including, but not limited to, cut, clarity, color, and carat weight.

Modern Mood hereby certifies that all gemstones purchased from our collections are:

• Natural for Natural Gemstone Collection: Confirmed as naturally occurring, completely free from synthetic creation or artificial enhancements that alter their fundamental composition. Our diamonds typically feature G/H color, SI1/2 clarity, and excellent cuts to maximize their sparkle. We've chosen this quality based on our experience working at a wonderful local, family-owned jewelry store. With smaller stones viewed with the "naked eye", a professional term used by GIA, there's no discernible difference in color and clarity. This is especially true for diamond melees, or small accent diamonds. In essence, this quality offers the "best bang for your buck." For custom orders, we offer premium materials, including platinum, 18 karat gold, and F color VS clarity diamonds. Opting for higher quality diamonds typically adds 10%-20% to the cost.
  
• Ethically Sourced: Procured in strict adherence to our comprehensive ethical sourcing guidelines, ensuring all acquisition processes are responsible, transparent, and conflict-free.

• CZ (cubic zirconia) for CZ Collection:
  In 2025, we expanded our offerings with a separate collection of Cubic Zirconia (CZ) designs. While our genuine gemstone creations will always remain the heart of our brand, the CZ and lab-grown options bring a fresh, playful, and budget-friendly way to experience our artistry—without compromising on style or quality.

Our natural gemstone collection will continue to be made exclusively with natural gemstones. While the CZ collection can be offered with natural gemstones, our original natural gemstone collection will remain entirely natural to avoid any confusion about synthetic stones.

The Cubic Zirconia we use in our designs is 5A graded. Cubic zirconia is a lab-grown gemstone composed primarily of zirconium dioxide (ZrO₂), stabilized with trace amounts of yttrium or calcium to maintain its brilliant cubic structure. Cubic zirconia is graded mainly by clarity, cut, and overall appearance, often on a scale from A to 5A:

• A / AA: Basic quality, often cloudy or poorly cut. Used in inexpensive fashion jewelry.
• AAA: Mid-range quality with decent sparkle and clarity. Common in retail jewelry.
• AAAA: High clarity and better cut, more diamond-like.
• AAAAA (5A): The best available CZ—flawless to the eye, brilliant cut, and maximum sparkle. These are hand-selected and often used in fine or designer jewelry.

There’s no universal standard like GIA for CZs, so grades may vary between suppliers. Reputable brands like Swarovski Zirconia use their own precision-cutting and internal quality control for consistent top-grade stones.

Our jewelry is manufactured by a talented, kind team in Hong Kong and China. Our manufacturer has been granted an ISO 9001 Certificate (Quality Management System), ISO14001 Certificate (Environment Assured Firm), ISO45001 Certificate (Occupational Health and Safety Management System), and ISO45001 Certificate (Enhanced Workers Safety), holds an Environmental Product Declaration and thoughtfully reuses excess materials with minimal impact on the environment during production.

All Modern Mood Body Jewelry has lifetime warranty against manufacturing imperfections.

This warranty covers issues related to the materials and craftsmanship of your jewelry. Please note that it does not extend to wear and tear, or any intentional or accidental damage caused by tools for removal. To ensure the longevity of your jewelry and to maintain warranty validity, we kindly request that you review Logan's instructional video on how to properly bend our pins. Should tool marks be discovered on pins during a repair assessment, the warranty will be voided, and a repair fee of $35 per pin will apply.

Luckily gold is a sustainable material in terms of recycle-ability and repair-ability. We offer appropriate repairs and replacements determined in each request for a minimum of $35, plus shipping. Our wonderful friend Stray, at DUSK Body Jewelry in New Hampshire, handles repairs and pin conversions such as threadless to threaded.

All pieces need to be processed through an ultrasonic and sterilized in a sterilized pouch with an integrator inside to show passing. If biofilm is still visible, a $35 dollar fee will be added.

Turnaround time on replacing a piece of jewelry follows our regular production time: approximately 6-8 weeks + shipping time.

Our standard turnaround time on made-to-order designs is approximately 6-8 weeks + shipping time. We stock best selling designs regularly to allow for immediate shipping. All current in-stock designs can be viewed here.

All retail customer repairs must be submitted through place of purchase, or one of our stockists.

We have a zero-tolerance policy on all forms of abuse and harassment. All abuse and/or harassment of any nature including: sexual, sexism, misogyny, ageism, bullying, verbal, physical, racism and mental abuse either online or in the real world, will result in immediate account closure. Additionally, evidence of fraudulent or illegal reproduction of our designs will warrant immediate account closure.
