    The safest bet is to soak the design in warm water and clean it with an extra soft bristle toothbrush. Never hovering over a sink drain. Use a clean cup or bowl to soak pieces in. 

    Diamond and cubic zirconia designs are safe to be cleaned with an ultrasonic cleaner. There are smaller home ultrasonic cleaners for sale to the public that work just fine. 

    Avoid harsh chemicals such as lye, hydrogen peroxide, bleach, acetone, and alcohol as well as everyday chemicals as in makeup, hair spray, essential oils, lotion, perfume, pool chemicals (chlorine and salt water) in order to protect soft and porous gemstones like opal, turquoise and pearls.

    The same applies to gold alloy. Prolonged or repeated exposure to these chemicals can corrode gold alloy.
