When you decide to adorn your body with a beautiful new piercing, aside from choosing a good piercer, the choice of jewelry is perhaps the most critical decision you'll make. It’s a choice that goes far beyond aesthetics. While materials like implant grade steel, implant grade titanium, fused quartz glass (retainers), lead-free borosilicate glass and niobium are amazing and are a base line of materials great for healing piercings, opting for high-quality 14K gold body jewelry is not just a style upgrade, it's a conscious investment in your health, comfort, and financial future.
Here is why your next piece of beautiful 14K gold body jewelry should be viewed as an appreciating asset, a cosmic heirloom, and a commitment to professional standards.
An Investment in Health: Biocompatibility and Professional Care
For any piercing, especially fresh or sensitive ones, the material that sits inside your body matters immensely. This is where 14K solid gold truly shines.
-
Superior Biocompatibility: High-quality 14K gold (which is 58.3% pure gold) is highly biocompatible. Gold is naturally well-tolerated by the body and is a commonly accepted material for long-term internal wear. Unlike lower-grade or plated jewelry that may contain irritating alloys like nickel, solid 14K gold significantly reduces the risk of irritation, adverse tissue reactions, and slow healing.
All of our jewelry is made with nickel-free and cadmium-free 14k white gold, yellow gold, rose gold or black rhodium plating over 14k gold underneath.
We use vegan polishing compounds.
We are an Association of Professional Piercers (APP Phase 2 Verified) verified jewelry company. This means we have passed the tests and standards they set forth. -
Ideal Purity and Durability: Pure 24K gold is too soft for daily wear and can easily scratch. 14K gold strikes the perfect balance: it's pure enough to be body-safe yet strong enough (thanks to its alloy mix) to withstand everyday life without excessive damage. This durability is key to a happy, healthy piercing.
An Investment in Value: A Tangible, Restorable Asset
Unlike fast-fashion jewelry that fades and degrades, solid gold is a commodity that holds intrinsic, quantifiable value.
-
Intrinsic Metal Value: Gold has been a stable store of wealth for centuries. Your 14K gold body jewelry contains a significant percentage of real, quantifiable gold. As the market price of gold generally appreciates over time, the inherent scrap value of your jewelry rises with it. You are literally wearing your wealth.
-
Longevity and Maintenance: While solid 14K gold is highly durable, over time, exposure to chemicals, cosmetics, and natural wear can cause it to tarnish, scratch, or lose its luster.
The significant advantage of 14K gold is that its original brilliance can be fully restored, unlike plated jewelry where the thin layer cannot be safely renewed once worn off.
-
Visit your piercer for a professional cleaning. They can remove unseen buildup and restore your jewelry's radiance. Ask your friendly piercer for maintenance tips and techniques to keep your pieces sparkling like new.
- We suggest the following, for people that like to do things themselves or are experienced in how to take care of gold jewelry. Always consult a piercer please!
HOW TO CLEAN:
The safest bet is to soak the design in warm water and clean it with an extra soft bristle toothbrush. Never hovering over a sink drain. Use a clean cup or bowl to soak pieces in.
Diamond and cubic zirconia designs are safe to be cleaned with an ultrasonic cleaner. There are smaller home ultrasonic cleaners for sale to the public that work just fine.
Avoid harsh chemicals such as lye, hydrogen peroxide, bleach, acetone, and alcohol as well as everyday chemicals as in makeup, hair spray, essential oils, lotion, perfume, pool chemicals (chlorine and salt water) in order to protect soft and porous gemstones like opal, turquoise and pearls.
The same applies to gold alloy. Prolonged or repeated exposure to these chemicals can corrode gold alloy.
-
A Cultural Tradition: Portable, Universal Wealth
The practice of wearing gold as a tangible store of value is a tradition that spans thousands of years and numerous cultures worldwide.
-
Insurance in Jewelry: For many families, particularly in regions like Asia, India, the Middle East, and parts of the Mediterranean, gold jewelry is not just ornamentation; it functions as a portable, discreet emergency fund or "insurance" against economic downturns or unforeseen crises [1, 2].
-
Crisis Liquidity: In times of high inflation, political instability, or restricted access to banks, a piece of gold jewelry can be quickly and universally liquidated. Its high value-to-weight ratio allows significant wealth to be carried and transported easily, offering immediate financial flexibility when traditional currency fails [3].
The Cosmic Geology of Gold: An Ancient Heirloom
To understand the full value of gold, you must understand its extraordinary origins. The gold in your jewelry is genuinely ancient, making it one of the most meaningful, valuable, and enduring assets you can pass down.
-
Forged in Star Death: Gold and other heavy elements are not formed within Earth; they are created through a violent process known as the r-process (rapid neutron capture). Most gold is believed to have been forged in the explosions of massive stars, known as supernova, or the even more dramatic merger of neutron stars [4, 5].
-
Older Than Humanity: The gold atoms, scattered across the universe by these events, became part of the interstellar dust that formed our solar system. The earliest modern humans (Homo sapiens) emerged only about 300,000 years ago. The gold in your jewelry is billions of years old—it is literally star stuff and infinitely older than us.
-
Legacy and Sentiment: Because of its durability, universal acceptance, and intrinsic worth, passing on a piece of solid 14K gold body jewelry is not only the transfer of a stable financial asset but also a profound sentimental gesture. You are gifting a rare, enduring fragment of a star, a tangible connection to your shared history, and a piece of wealth that has spanned the history of the universe.
Your jewelry isn't just an investment in style; it is an investment in legacy.
